Metropolitan & Country Stakes Increase

On the 22nd July 2008, Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) announced an increase in its basic metropolitan stake effective from the start of the 2008-09 racing season on September 1.
The metropolitan stake will be increased from $14,000 to $15,000 and will take Victoria’s annual returns to stakeholders to a national high of $33.6 million in the new financial year.
Harness Racing Victoria had previously announced an increase in the state's basic country stake that will deliver an additional $704,000 in returns to stakeholders over a 12 month period.
From April 1, 2008, the minimum prizemoney at over 350 country meetings will increase from $4750 to $5000, further enhancing the earning opportunities across Victoria for all participants.
HRV Chairman, Neil Busse, said the increase was a great Christmas present for the Victorian industry that had suffered greatly since the interstate Equine Influenza outbreaks.
